About AJ Roach

A. J. Roach was born and raised in the deep hollows of mountainous Scott County, Virginia -- the cultural and geographical epicenter of America's Appalachian Mountain Range, and the birthplace of American country music. Known for his relentless touring schedule, A. J. has traveled well over one million miles and performed in more than a dozen countries since the release of his first album in 2003. He was winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Award at MerleFest in 2004 and winner of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 2011. His songs have been placed in feature-length film and television shows including the CW's 'One Tree Hill' and Showtime's 'The United States of Tara' and his second album, 'Revelation', was #1 on the Euro-Americana Chart in Europe and #5 on the FAR (folk and roots) US chart.

At the forefront of the new troubadour movement, A. J.'s songs blur the line between traditional and indie folk. His music has been featured in several U.S. televison shows and feature-length films, and has drawn comparisons to Townes Van Zandt, Vic Chesnutt and Will Oldham.

'A.J. is a true poet' Tom T. Hall

'Roach deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Will Oldham, Vic Chesnutt and David Eugene Edwards' - San Franciso Bay Guardian.
