"Mandolin Technique: Getting to the Next Level"? 2-4:30 pm $50 During this workshop we'll look at general mandolin technique and how to improve various aspects of your playing. The goal will be to help the aspiring mandolinist overcome physical barriers in his or her playing. We'll look at ways to improve tone, volume, speed, and your knowledge of the fretboard. We'll also look at exercises to help you play more fluidly when improvising over chord changes. Plus we'll look at general ways of practicing more efficiently and effectively. Topics covered will include: Right Hand Exercises to improve tone and increase speed Arpeggio exercises Scale Patterns in various keys Playing Up the Neck Practice Techniques & Routines Matt Flinner is one of the premiere mandolinists and roots music composers in the U.S. He has been an innovator in American string band music for the last 20 years, and has released several solo CDs along with recordings by his own Matt Flinner Trio and Matt Flinner Quartet. Besides his own Matt Flinner Trio, he has recorded and toured with Tim O'Brien, Steve Martin, Alison Brown, Dave Douglas, the Ying Quartet, Leftover Salmon, Frank Vignola, the Modern Mandolin Quartet, Tony Trischka, the Nashville Chamber Orchestra and many others.
