About Dive Bar Dukes
This band was formed in Brooklyn in the spring of 2008, playing it's first shows at Freddy's (RIP) in Brooklyn. The Dukes are a HonkyTonk inspired band playing songs from the classic catalog of Hank Sr, Waylon, Cash, Merle, contemporaries like Gillian Welch, and classics like Robert Johnson and Bill Monroe. The band emphasizes good musicianship and improvisation without straying from a rootsy sound. They have cut thier teeth at several of NYC's mainstay music bars: Lakeside Lounge, Banjo Jim's, Spike Hill, Scratcher's, Pete's Candy Store, and recently played a benefit at Brooklyn Bowl for Nashville Flood Victims. The band consists of a core of 3 members: Hans Holzen (guitars & vox), Peter Bitenc (bass), and Carlo Costa (drums). But the Dukes always have a stellar sideman join in to keep shows fresh and lively. Regular Duke performers include: Jefferson Hamer, Rich Hinman, Eleanor Whitmore, Rob Hecht, Carrie Rodriguez, Andy Cotton, and more of NYC's best twangsters. ..
