About John Foti
Though he may have once denied it, John Foti is genuinely happy to represent a new link in the long, sturdy chain of New Jersey songwriters. Or perhaps it's more like handcuffs...comfortable ones. Still residing in his homestate (but without a wife-beater t-shirt, slick car, and slicker hair), Foti is a multi-instrumentalist who draws upon his suburban upbringing and observes neighborhood characters to write proud and reflective songs about small-town people yearning for big-time places. He tells tales of music-filled travels, wronged relationships, and shoreline excursions (with traffic-time included).
To fully understand what all this means, one should check out a live performance of Foti's with his band-mates, most of them long-time friends from New Jersey, including his sister, Kate. If you can't make a show, then all you have to do is listen to Foti's debut album, "Everybody's Coming To Town," a gathering of friends, instruments, and sing-alongs; a 12-track collection of original American stories, celebrated through catchy melodies and thoughtful arrangements. Special guests on the album include Dan Zanes, Mocean Worker, Erin Bru, and Charlie Faye.
Foti has been touring worldwide, playing accordion and saxophone with Grammy-winning childrens music artist Dan Zanes & Friends since 2006 and has shared the stage with Nick Lowe, Rosanne Cash, Damon Albarn, Natalie Merchant, and Philip Glass. You can also find him sitting in with original NYC acts The Defibulators, Julia Haltigan, Charlie Faye, and Jeremy Joyce.
